Natural and artificial (human) activities cause climate change

Climate includes temperature, rainfall etc. There are many reasons of climate change. Those may be natural or artificial. We will mainly discuss here artificial means of climate change. However, we will discuss a little about natural reasons too. Global warming is one of the main causes of climate change.

Activities in the Sun and our solar system are the main reason of natural climate change. Heat emissions from the sun change with time cycle and that effect the earth and become a reason for the same. Natural activities in the earth and especially in its surface such as volcanic eruptions, earth quake, Al Nino effect etc are also significant reasons of climate change.

Normally natural climate change takes place in very long time. The earth is cooling down since its birth, according to the geologists. It takes millions of years in significant and visible change. Cooling down of the earth has significant role in changing the climate.

 Human activities also effect on global climate. This is the topic we are worried. Climate change caused by human race was not prominent before industrial era. Human activities have insignificant effect on global climate change at that time.

We have started burning fossil fuel at higher pace with the industrialization (Since 18th century). Initially it was wood and coal which were burnt to produce energy to run steam engines. Gradually, source of energy shifted to petroleum products. Both coal and petroleum are fossil fuels.

Burning of fossil fuels emits green house gases such as carbon dioxide and causes global warming. This is also referred as carbon emissions. This seriously damage global environment and atmosphere. Green house gas emissions or carbon emissions are the main artificial reasons of global warming and climate change.

World leaders have been meeting in Climate change conference, Copenhagen to discuss the issues of global warming and climate change (COP 15 between December 7 to 18 in Copenhagen).

The one point solution to climate change is control. Consumerism is its peak in present days. We are encouraging consumerism in the name of development. People are encouraged, inspired and motivated to consume more and more. This very attitude puts pressure on natural resources. It also enhances energy consumption by many folds.

We need more and more energy every day. We burn fossil fuels to get energy. Burning fossil fuels cause global warming hence climate change.

We need to exercise control over our consumption to stop global warming and climate change. Consumerism and sustainable environment can not exist together. We have to choose between consumerism and sustainable environment. We have to think about sustainable development in place of uncontrolled growth. Go green to fight global warming.

It is better to redefine our parameters of development. Consuming more and more is looked as parameter of growth and development. Instead, we may think environmental sustainability as measurement of growth. Jainism shows us path to sustainable development and sustainable environment.
Jainism and environment

It is advisable to create more and more green collar jobs in place of white collar jobs. We have to think of converting blue collar jobs and white collar jobs in to green collar jobs. Obama administration has already taken an admirable step by declaring green collar job as its priority. President Obama has promised five million green collar jobs in a decade.

Copenhagen can be proved as Hopenhagen if we start fighting global warming to stop climate change.
