Climate Change Conference COP15 in Copenhagen
Indian leaders along with World leaders are meeting in Climate change conference COP15 in Copenhagen of UN from today December 7, 2009. It is the biggest summit on climate change, global warming and other environment related issues. 192 countries across the globe are participating in this climate change conference.
Copenhagen is hosting this summit many years after the summit in Kyoto, Japan. Indian leaders had participated in Kyoto and now they are in Copenhagen. India is an important country this time as the Chief of the conference spelled out six months back in an interview.
Carbon emission and green house gases are major causes of concern in this conference. Carbon emission has been reaching to an alarming state and every Tom, Dick and Harry have started feeling the threat and heat of global warming.
Ecosystem of the earth is really in danger. Temperature rising globally. Glaciers have started melting rising water levels of the seas and oceans.
Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen are discussing on these matters. Indian stand is unique and eye opening in COP 15, Copenhagen. Indian stand will be proved as mile stone in making Copenhagen Hopenhagen

Indian stand on carbon emission
Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, has unilaterally declared cut in carbon emission by 20 to 25 percent. This will hopefully put pressure on the United States of America and other developed countries in European Union and other parts of the globe to announce major cuts in carbon emissions.
India has not claimed any thing in return from the developed countries. It is to be noted that per capita carbon emission of India is much lesser than the United States of America and other industrialized countries.
The declaration has brought large scale debate with in India. Jairam Ramesh, the Minister concerned, is questioned in the Rajya Sabha (Upper house of the Indian Parliament) by the entire opposition. Even two of the main negotiators from India Mr. Dasgupta and Mr. Ghose denied to join the climate change conference in Copenhagen on the previous night of the COP 15. However, Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister negotiated with them and they were finally agreed to join and negotiate put Indian stand in the conference.
Jairam Ramesh has clarified in the Rajya Sabha (Parliament) that India is not marching back from its previous agenda. He added that India will pursue with two of its most important agendas.

Climate change conference: Indian stand
Per capita carbon emission and Indian stand
India is pursuing with its main agenda of per capita carbon emission. There are vast differences in per capita carbon emissions among countries. Per capita carbon emissions by the developed countries are much more than that of developing countries. India is willing to abolish the gaps. India is working for equity. No one should be allowed more of carbon emission and no one should have compromise for the less.
Developed countries are major culprits of carbon emissions that causes global warming and climate change and developing nations are the victims of that. This situation must not continue in democratic world, according to the Indian stand.
Industrialized or developed countries have to cut their carbon emissions more than the developing countries to bring the equity, as per Indian agenda.
Carbon emission history
Most of the European Union countries along with the UK and United States of America are liable for carbon emissions in the past two centuries during their industrialization processes along with some other countries. They have the contributed lion's share of carbon emission in the environment historically. According to India, they are liable for green house affect and economic and industrialization history will tell the truth.
Developing countries likes of China, Brazil, Vietnam and India have started their industrialization process few decades back and do not have a long history of major carbon emissions and green house gases emissions in those days.
India wants a compensation by those countries who are liable for these.

Updates: Climate change conference in Copenhagen and Indian stand
Developed countries tried to impose their agenda in Climate change conference in Copenhagen over developing countries. Both India and China took strong stand against the agenda along with South Africa and some other developing countries.
They walked out of the climate change conference. This step put tremendous pressure on the developed countries. Conference was adjourned for some time. It is absolutely necessary for the rich, industrialized and developed countries to hear the developing countries to make Copenhagen Hopenhagen.
Jairam Ramesh, Environment minister, India has categorically informed the climate change conference that all drafts and texts must be completed by today night i.e. December, 15, 2009. Head of the nations must not discuss on petty things like this. They must be involved in larger issues like political will and final statements etc.
BRIC countries are playing their ball well. Climate change conference will be entering in its final round tonight when head of the nations will join the conference. Let us hope for the best.

Hi,
India has to pursue its agenda otherwise rich nations will work other way.
Thanks.
Quotes from this Hub Author: "This will hopefully put pressure on the United States of America and other developed countries in European Union and other parts of the globe to announce major cuts in carbon emissions."
"India has not claimed any thing in return from the developed countries. It is to be noted that per capita carbon emission of India is much lesser than the United States of America and other industrialized countries."
Quote from Malicdem: "Developing countries like India and my country, the Philippines, are contributing lesser carbon emissions that result to global warming, and yet these countries throw in the towel for a global support by cutting the rate of their relatively small guilt."
Small Guilt? "Methane emissions from “enteric fermentation”, or basically belching, by a ruminating beef animal has an estimated global total of 50.16 million tonnes of CH4 per year."
"North American beef cattle production only accounts for 3.85 (7.6%) of that global total. Central and South America, Sub-Sahara Africa, and China have the honor of taking first, second and third place with 17.09, 7.47, and 5.12, respectively; or 59% of the Global Total." And India is in FOURTH PLACE.
Yet, it is the beef cattle farmer in the USA that is supposed to set an example and have their land managed by the American EPA? and convert to a Vegan diet? and witness the Demise of the small Beef Cattle Farmer in our culture?
Developing countries like India and my country, the Philippines, are contributing lesser carbon emissions that result to global warming, and yet these countries throw in the towel for a global support by cutting the rate of their relatively small guilt.
This Indian challenge must be viewed as a courageous act by the rich countries who must be the first to initiate a full scale reduction. Very exhaustive and informative hub. Thank you for sharing.
Jyoti,
India has thrown a challenge to developed and rich countries. Wait and see.
Nice article. thumbs up!
Surendra
It is a timely written hub enlightens every body particularly the Indians in regards to green house effect and views. By the time I also wrote an article on the same topic which would be seen shortly. May I request you to look to that where you would suggest your valuable write-up in the form comment? Thanks.
Hi Jyoti,
I have seen debate in a Tv show. I do not think that the announcement by India in Copenhagen will benefit India. India is not a rich nor developed country.
Carbon emissions cut will slow down its development, hence economy.
Thanks for a good hub. Thumbs up!

WE suffer due to climate change. Some countries that contribute to the fund to mitigate climate change have appended a side agenda. For example, Spain. Attached to its funding of awareness campaigns and research it wants the revival of the teaching of Spanish language in schools. We have abolished the teaching of Spanish language long time ago, in 1970. The mandatory teaching of Spanish in college was a carry over from the Spanish colonial regime that exploited the Philippines for 300 years.
