Global warming and climate change

Global warming is talk of town. Environmentalists had been talking of global warming and climate change since many years but most of the people were dumb to it. Global warming was not effecting most of us directly till recent past. We have ignored the warning for many times and since many years. However, we, the common people have started feeling the heat of global warming only since few years. Climate change and global warming are related to each other. In fact, these are two sides of the same coin.

Global warming is seriously affecting the global environment. It is a threat to our survival. It has brought the earth and its habitats at the threshold of total collapse.

Situation is alarming now and world leaders have been assembling at Climate change conference, Copenhagen to discuss climate change and global warming issues. Copenhagen conference (COP15, December 07 to 18, 2009)) has been symbolized as Hopenhagen.

What is global warming

Rise in average temperature of the globe is known as global warming. Average temperature of the earth is rising since few years due to various artificial and man made reasons.

More on what is global warming:

The globe is maintaining a certain average temperature since thousands of years. The earth receives heat in form of sun rays in the day time and emits heat energy in to the cosmos (Space). The nature itself balances in and out of heat energy. The earth is maintaining certain average temperature and climate change cycle since thousands of years. This is optimal temperature required for human being to live in the earth. It cause climate change when this temperature rises. Hence, climate change is related to global warming.

Causes of global warming

Green house gases emissions, green house effect, carbon emissions etc are the main causes of global warming. Burning of fossil fuels emits green house gases like carbon dioxide. This creates imbalance in the ratio of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Green house gases work as a cover over the earth and resist emission of heat energy from the earth surface.

In turn it increases global temperature and causes global warming. Burning of fossil fuel is the main cause of global warming. There are some other reasons too.

Effects of global warming

Main effect of global warming is climate change. There are other effects of global warming too. Global warming causes melting of glaciers. this reduces quantity of ice in north and south poles of the earth damaging global atmosphere seriously.  Melting of glaciers causes rise in the sea level. Oceans ans seas receive more water and their level increase. Coastal cities are in danger because of rising in sea levels.

Mountain ranges like the Himalayas have large number of glaciers like Gangotri and Yamunotri. Global warming accelerates their melting speed. Rivers like Ganga and Yamuna start receiving more water and cause flood in its path. Higher ratio of melting glaciers also endanger the glacier itself. Some of the glaciers in the Himalayan range is either extinguished or at the threshold of extinguishing. This will end up in drying those rivers.

Global warming seriously effects the climate. Rise in temperature changes climate. Climate change effects adversely on the species living in the earth. Human kind suffers from various diseases due to global warming and climate change. Large numbers  of the animals and plants species are in danger. we know that hundreds of species are declared as endangered species.

Climate change also effect the geography and topography of a region. it converts green area in to deserts. It also effects agricultural production adversely and causes drought and  famine. Ethiopia and Somalia are the best examples of effects of global warming.

Nice work on the global warming issue. Unfortunately, we will have to face anger of the nature as because in every moments we are polluting the earth, the atmosphere, water, air, and everything. Though lot of initiatives are being taken and many prophylactic steps prescribed in the global summit for environment safety...but how much those would be helpful...unless me,you, and everyone acts honestly...only little care from everyone is required...!!

Thank you so much for this educative post.

Best Regards,

Nick

I am one that believes in global warming. It entails both cooling in some areas of the planet and warming in other parts. Global warming is a misnomer. It is one of extreme weather. As our planet warms up ( the average global temperature is increasing), it sets up unusual weather patterns never experienced before. Over the prairies in Canada the winter was unusually cool but the rest of the country had experienced unusually warm weather. This also applies to precipitation. One part of the country could experienced unbelievable rainfall while another part will experience hot, drought conditions.

Even if people don't want to believe in global warming, ecological damage and loss of diversity is clearly visible everywhere across the world. Even if we assume (hypothetically) that there is no more additional greenhouse gases right from today, but if we continue to pollute water reservoirs, rivers, and oceans; keep spilling tonnes of crude oil into oceans; and keep clearing natural forests effects would still be the same on the climate. It is going to become unpredictable. The core issue is the wasteful use of natural resources; rest is all a matter of semantics.

The issue of worldwide pollution needs debating whether we believe in global warming or not.

Thanks for writing on a relevant topic.

Hello Jyoti:

I just read this "hub."

I just creates a big questionmark?

I have written a "hub" concerning global warming. If you're interested, here it is:

Global warming is a matter of concern for all of us. We have to exercise control over us. Otherwise coming generation will not forgive us.

We have to save some thing for them.

Thanks for sharing.

Jyoti, possibly you haven't heard about "climate-gate"? a whistle blower from inside the CRU (climate research Unit) revealed that the so-called scientists have been "fudging" the temperature data. in fact the temperature has been declining since 1998. Even today, I read that some glaciers in Switzerland melted in 1945, due to global dimming, when they received more sunshine. (has to do with Earth's wobble. Also, it has been revealed that many ofthe scientists and politicians have "ulterior motives" in advocating this alarm about Global warming, since they have stocks in industries connected to the "green energy".

the other day, it was 58 degrees (Fahrenheit)below zero in Edmonton, Canada, 10 degrees colder than last year.

I understand that some islands in the Indian Ocean are worried about submersion. However, a very reputable geologist explained that it could be explained by erosion.

I understand that Indian industrial engineer and economist Dr. Rajendra Pachauri is one of the principle forces in the Global Warming movement. However, he is not a climatologist, and Al Gore is definitely not a scientist.

And, unfortunately, they both seem positioned to gain windfalls of money from new greenhouse regulations.
