A distant view: Jain Temples on Palitana Hills

Palitana is the greatest and biggest pilgrimage center and sacred place of Jains. The Shwetambar Jain community believes that the hill of Palitana (Siddhachal) is eternal. Rshabhadev (Adinath), the first Jain Tirthankara, came here several times and preached. Billions of monks and nuns have attained Nirvana (Salvation) from this hill from times immemorial.

It is also believed that hundred millions monks leaded by Dravida and Varikhilla attained here Nirvana on the auspicious day of Kartika Purnima (Full moon day in the month of Kartika according to Indian lunar calendar) and fifty millions leaded by Nami and Vinami on Chaitri Purnima (Full moon day in the month of Chaitra according to Indian lunar calendar).

Faguna pheri and Akshaya Tritiya (Akha Teej) are also observed with great devotion.

Large temples are built above the hills and the valley of Palitana along with many in the Palitana city.

Thousands of Tirthankara idols are installed in these temples.

I had come to your site to get darshan of Lord Mahavir. I am at States. Jainism in India is not doing well yet the site is very nice. I have keen interest in the well being of all our people. WE need more classes on jainism and education to all people to learn to live and excel on spiritual path. I am Krishna and Parvati ma. I have no introduction to Jainism only that I can do so much as Brahmin and a darbar. India needs lot of help and guidance for kids to become Lord Mahavir or tirthankaras. Avoid too many spiritual tests and help more is the message. WE need to learn to thrive and not loose interest plus theres a lot one can learn from India.

I pay my pranams to Lord Mahavir at Palitana. Can you show the darshan? Regards. uri

Hi Jaipal Hundia,

I did not visited Hastgiri and Kadambgiri during my last visit to Palitana when I took these photographs.

Hence, I am unable to put pictures of those temples.

Thanks for your interest in Hastgiri and Kadambgiri. If you have some pictures of those you can send me those to put in this hub.

Thanks,

Hi kalpesh,

Thanks for visiting and commenting on this hub. I do not know the exact reason of Faguna pheri. Perhaps it is because of the ending of Falguna Chaturmas.

Exact reason is to be inquired.

Thanks,
