Swami Ramdeo or Baba Ramdeo has been established as a magical person in India. Perhaps he is the most popular celebrity of the country nowadays. People are mad about him. He has motivated Indian people for Yoga. The whole media has taken him hand on hand. His camps are full. Millions of people are following him. No one in recent past make people so crazy.
He is a Yoga teacher, as known in general, but he is a very good marketing person too. He has got an idea, a wonderful idea of marketing Yoga, the ancient treasure of India. I admire his capability of marketing very much. I appreciate his efforts to bring the Yoga into the center of attraction of everyone. He knows the pulse of general mass. People are suffering from mental and physical problems. The modern life style and present economic crisis and financial problem only enhanced it. Junk food, easy going life style, lack of physical exercise etc are contributing to physical diseases like heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes, indigestion, gastric problems, acidity, mesothelmia and cancer. This life style also leads to mental problems such as stress, tension and restlessness. People are so busy for their livelihood rather lifestyle that they actually forget the life. They, when tired, go to release their tension and stress at places of amusement and entertainment. Alas! All in vain. They do not find any solution to their stress and anxiety.

In an unexpected move, Baba Ramdeo has opposed Adi Shankaracharya. Adi Shankaracharya is known as an extremely respected saint in whole Hindu community. He had been the founder of Adwaitvaad branch of Vedanta in Hindu Philosophy. Hindus take his name with respect even after two thousand years.
There are four Maths (Shrines) in four sides of India. Puri in East, Dwarika in west, Shringeri in North and Kanchi in South in the name of Shankaracharya. The present saints are also called Shankaracharyas and they are regarded as one of the highest authorities in Hindu religion.
Adi Shankaracharya established a doctrine (Brahma Satya Jaganmithya) that became land mark in Indian philosophy. Baba Ramdeo has recently opposed this doctrine and told thatthe statement of Adi Shankaracharya is not true. It is worth noted that Adi Shankaracharya was a great Yoga Guru too. There is a famous story about his miracle (Parakaya Pravesh) through Yoga.
There is a hue and cry about statement of Ramdeo baba. Large number of Hindu saints and people at large have opposed Ramdeo's statement. Ramdeo Baba is not suppose to oppose Adi Shankaracharya, according to them. Some people also speaking that Baba Ramdeo is speaking like this out of his ego.

Swami Ramdeo: A popular yoga teacher
Indian Yoga has become very popular in western countries. Western people started witnessing mental and psychological problems long before the Indians because of their lifestyle. They adopted Yoga to get peace of mind. But in India itself yoga was not very popular even in the recent past.
Swami Ramdeo has realized the situation very well. He understood it much better than any one else. He took the opportunity to encash it. He does not go to the finer details of the Yoga, that India is renowned for. He has just made it t popular. He started teaching Yoga and arranged camps where large number of people have joined it. He educated the mass in yoga. He introduced common people to it. Initially he taught free in his camps, as all good marketing persons or companies do. As camps become popular, he has started charging for it. Does it not look like perfect strategy of marketing?
Electronic media, that is growing in a fast pace in India, has played a vital role to popularize him. He used the electronic media to market his idea. The Media have also needed a person like him to popularize their channels. This has been proven as very good combination that worked for both.
Ramdeo: Tough personality
He teaches very simple Yoga, simple Pranayama (Rechaka, Puraka and Kumbhaka), Asana, Bhastrika etc. Those are very easy to practice even by a layman. These are the preliminary processes, known even to the primary learners of Yoga. Yoga is known in India for centuries for preparing grounds to meditation thus salvation. Yoga teachers never thought of popularising it in a mass scale. They had been practicing it to achieve higher levels of Samadhi and Meditation.
Swami Ramdeo is a tough man. He has not hesitated or given up when challenged by the medical professionals and scientists.The mass backed him. So the politicians also backed him. Normally politicians do not like to loose a vote bank. All these combinations worked for him. He is able to find his fortune.
Ramdeo Baba has done a wonderful job by awakening mass to Yoga. He has contributed a lot to revive this ancient therapy. Some people have got rid of their mental stresses and agonies. He has minted money seling his services that people needed. He is also trying to revive Ayurveda, the herbal therapy of India. He has served people but it is now high time to evaluate the whole process. Researches should be done on the effect of so called Yoga taught.

Problems that can arise:
There can be reparcations.There are different medicines for different patients (though same disease). One can not apply same medicine to every patient. It can be applied in personal supervision of a medical practitioner only. Similarly one can not practice same yogasana as another. It can only be applied in the supervision of a specialist. As mass medication is not allowed, so as to yoga.
But who listens? People are following him blindly. If some reaction or reparcation comes, normally no body blames him. If some one blames, no one listens.
It is advisable that the scientists, the universities and the intellectual groups at large should come forward to conduct comparative study of yoga in the light of Patanjala Yogashastra (original ancient Indian text about yoga) and modern science. It is in the best interest of everyone to conduct an unbiased study, that would unfold both pros and cons of the feature.
To conclude, we have all rights to enjoy the fruits of his teachings. It will save our interest if we become aware and conscious of the harms. We should not be mesmerised with his teachings. We should not be a blind follower but an enlightened one.

Supreme court of India decided Ramdeo case today on 23rd February, 2012. The apex court in India found both Delhi police and Baba Ramdeo faulty and fined both with Rs. 5 Lakh. The court also ordered to compensate the victims. Delhi police has to pay 75% and Baba Ramdeo 25% share of the compensation.
Swami Ramdeo sat on fast at Ramlila ground, Delhi against corruption in India. He was fighting against black money in India. He demanded that the central government of India should declare black money as national property and bring back it from foreign banks.He sat on fast (Anshan) with thousands of his supporters. Delhi police cracked down on the crowd on June 4 midnight. One killed and several injured in police lathi charge. The Supreme court of India took sue motto action on media report.

We need people like Ramdev ji, who are dedicated to there principles and work for the good of the people.
When any individual performs any action, it is easy to criticize him, even great avatars like Lord Krishna, Rama, Shirid Sai Baba where had to face criticizm in there life time.
Even in the best of schools, with very few students, best of teachers teaching can be understood in wrong sense, then How can we expect Ramdev Ji to make all his millions of followere performing some thing accurately.
Not many can deny that majority is getting benefitted by his yoga teachings.

The comments of Pbc and Renlu Modiji after my comment were expected by me. I am sorry that I became quite late to reply it. Sir, I am practicing Ayurveda, Yoga and Sports and even Adhyatma in my daily practice for me as well as for my patients since almost 15 yrs now. By God Dhanvantari's grace i.e Ayurveda and also due to the modern scientific advances, I am getting a good quality of life and also sufficient bread-butter. But I had came across thru many patients, who have got damaged their systems by practice of kapalbhati. According to basic vedic principles, one should get reed of sharir(body) and manas(psychological) dosha's first so as to practice YOGA.
There are many ways or professions to earn and become famous in this world. But no majics can be perform in case of disease treatments without proper understanding of the disease pathogenesis i.e disease process. Importance of Yoga is surely there for preventing as well as for curing, but it's certain that one has to select the disease state so as to start yoga or pranayama in a particular condition. It's wrong and truly unscientific to randomly start yoga-pranayama just by watching on TV or by reading thru books. One should undergo diagnosis about Dosha, Dushya etc. before starting Pranayama.

However, the way of Baba Ramdeo does not confirm to the ancient Indian Yoga.

I have came across many patients who have got helth problems especially musculoskeletal and nervine injuries followed by Kapalabhati Pranayama. According to Ayurveda's (satya arogya dnyan)basic principles, Pranayama can aggrevate "Vata" diseases aggressively if the person who is doing Pranayama has a disease with weak neuromuscular systematic coordination. Pranayama being a sort of exercise leads do propagation of "VATA" dosha element deep inside the tissues, nerves, blood vessels leading to create emergencies or irreparable disease states.
I wish people of India will wake up early from the effect of blind faiths and live upto the scientific health system. I am practicing SCIENTIFIC AYURVEDA since 15 years now and found that association of Modern scientific knowledge and ancienty wisdom of AYURVEDA, YOGA ANd SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE give very good and quick results. This association could offer "a total social solution to the Health Problems".
In my view Ayurveda is for body, Yoga is for mind and Spirituality is for soul. These are the steps for the ultimate goal of humankind i.e. for healthy long life, love,peace and final destined death(Kal mrutyu) or nirvana with total satisfaction.

Thanks for your valuable comment. I am not a doctor nor a medical professional but practicing Yoga since my childhood. I have large numbers of friends who are well trained in Yoga. Similarly i have many friends in Ayurveda and other medical professions. Most of them are of similar views.
I have witnessed few cases who have got irreparable losses in their health practicing Yoga without proper training. These instances motivated me to write this article to caution people.
I urge you to write some article in this line which can save people from the marketers.

As you have rightly said Swamy Ramdeo Baba is a very good marketeer. But the holy,sacred professions of healing, be it allopathy,Ayurveda,Homeopathy or Yoga, should not be meerly marketed for somebodies personal gains. These professions since ancient times were to be practiced by highly skilled individuals for the better long term health of general peoples. Medication needs a detailed history of ailment along with understanding pathogenesis leading to conclusion about exact diagnosis so as to make the ailed 100% free of his disease. The way Yoga ans Ayurveda are being marketed in these days may show its bad effects only after few years. These expert marketeers are making people to do self medications as well as self experimentations about their illness. If not benefited patients blame Yoga or Ayurveda.

I am glad to know that you have become vegetarian. This is the healthy way of life.
However, your language says a lot about you. I do not want to comment on that. Real Yoga teaches tranquility and the people practicing Yoga in real sense do not use this type of language.
I believe that your anger will evaporate when you learn Yoga from a real selfless Yoga teacher. Anger, cursing and crashing opponents may be an integral part of aggressive marketing but not of Yoga which was taught by Patanjali.

Thanks for your comment. You are free to express your view. However, I am only partially agree with the comment you made.
India had several languages in the past including Sanskrit.
How can we ignore Pali in which the doctrines of Lord Buddha is preserved or that of Ardha Magadhi Prakrit that has excellent texts including marvelous teachings of Lord Mahavira.
We can not also live with Sanskrit language only. We have to live in modern world and act accordingly. Knowing Sanskrit or any other languages is good but it can not be imposed on any one.

Saadar Pranam. I watch your program on ZTV or ASIA TV and find your speeches very interesting. However, since independence Indian rule has gone in the hands of western educated and power hungry anti-Hindu and anti-India Nehru family which is succeeding. Right now we are under Moslem rule and Christian conversions under a foreign lady. While your yoga instructions have helped millions all over the world, your lectures cannot reverse the KALYUG trend. From my childhood I have seen the criticism of this trend of modernization at the cost of morality, etc. but it has only got worse.
I suggest you make it compulsory in your schools to teach SANSKRIT, like it has recently been done in one of the schools in London, as they have discovered that Sanskrit makes people's/children's mind more scientific and fertile. I wonder if great personalities like you can save the Hindu religion from dwindling under the Moslems and Christians completely one day.
Perhaps this is the destiny of Bharatvarsh and Hindu Sanatan dharma to disappear from India being replaced by the meat eaters and unethical religions of the desert.

Jai Guru. You have rightly updated the matters regarding Reverend Adi Shankaracharya. Baba Ramdeo is simply a marketer of Yoga who have minted money selling the auspicious Yoga.
He have no authority to abuse a Saint of credentials Adi Shankaracharya. Adi Shankaracharya is respected by entire Hindu Community even after 2000 years.

Making money is not a bad thing but it should be through business and this is the morality.
Baba Ramdeo is teaching Yoga that Patanjal Yogashashtra does not recommend. I am pro Patanjal and not pro Ramdeo. That is why he dared to oppose Adi Shankaracharya, whose Yogik abilities are beyond question.

You are right Jyoti. Ramdeo Baba is more a marketer than a Yoga Guru. There are thousands of experts in Yoga in India but they were unable to market Yoga or they do not want to do so. Baba Ramdeo has been marketing Yoga successfully and able to earn huge money.

ramdeo Baba is posing himself as Yogi (In traditional gerua Vastra) but tries to earn money, as much as possible!!
That is what a business person or a marketer does. and i think he is a wonderful marketer who marketted Yoga all over India and now heading to overseas.
